5 Must-Have Items for a Successful Bariatric Journey

Header

Hey loves! Whether you’re just starting your bariatric journey, a few months post-op, or finding yourself needing a little reset because of some pesky regain (we’ve all been there, no judgment!), there are a few things I swear by that make staying on track way easier and honestly, more fun.

Here are my top five must-haves:

1. A Digital Bluetooth Scale

I know, the scale can be scary sometimes, but hear me out. A digital Bluetooth scale doesn’t just give you your weight, it tracks trends over time, syncs with apps, and makes logging your progress super simple. It’s like having a little accountability buddy right in your bathroom. My go-to is Renpho—I love it for its durability, price, and the included app that makes tracking your progress so easy. Get it here.

2. A Food Scale

Portion control is everything with bariatrics. And I’m not talking guessing or eyeballing it here. A food scale takes the guesswork out of your meals and helps you stay consistent with protein, calories, and macros. Trust me, it’s a game-changer. My favorite is the Hoto food scale because it’s sleek, easy to use, and super accurate. Get it here.

3. Measuring Cups

Even with a food scale, sometimes you just need a good old-fashioned measuring cup, especially for liquids, oatmeal, or shakes. It keeps your portions on point without any surprises. Think of it as your mini kitchen assistant.  like the Farberware Plastic Multicolor Measuring Cups because they’re affordable, durable, and the fun colors make them easy to grab and use. 4. A Time-Stamped Water Bottle

Hydration is key, y’all. Bariatric patients need to sip throughout the day to stay hydrated, help with digestion, and keep hunger cues in check. A time-stamped water bottle makes it fun and easy to see how much you’ve had and how much you still need. Grab one you love, bonus points if it’s cute or has motivational markings to keep you sipping all day. I like this one because it's pretty and it doesn't have a straw...perfect for bariatric patients.

5. A Fitness & Nutrition Planner

This is where the magic happens. Writing down your meals, workouts, water intake, or even your thoughts and wins keeps you intentional. Plus, it’s so satisfying to flip back and see how far you’ve come. I like to use mine as a mix of planner and cheerleader because it reminds me I’m capable of anything. My favorite is the Clever Fox Fitness & Food Journal because it makes tracking both food and workouts simple and motivating. Get it here.
